Introducing Torbjørn Joa, HydraWell’s Operations Specialist.

Torbjørn joined the HydraWell team in June 2021 and has a diverse career background that includes working on a farm, military service and various roles in the Oil and Gas industry, including mechanical wireline apprentice, Field Engineer and now operations specialist at HydraWell.

A keen runner with his finger on the pulse of current events and keeping up with daily changes in the Norwegian Stock Exchange, we sat down with Torbjørn to learn a bit more about him.

How long have you been part of the HydraWell team?

I joined the HydraWell team in June 2021.

What’s your career background?

Throughout the years, my journey has encompassed a variety of experiences. It all began when I was just 12 years old, receiving my first employee number for the task of maintaining a workshop and tending to the lawn surrounding an office building. Subsequently, I spent my weekends on a farm, milking cows and tending to the pigs. Transitioning into my professional career, I began working in the Oil and Gas industry as a mechanical wireline apprentice. After my military service, I returned to the industry, assuming the role of a Field Engineer before I later joined the HydraWell team

What does a typical day look like for you?

A typical day in my life when I'm not offshore, usually kicks off with me waking up well before the stock market opens. After grabbing a quick breakfast, I roll into the office just as the market comes to life.

The first order of business? Sorting through emails and getting myself up to speed on my work commitments and tasks for the day. I like to stay informed, so I also take a look at the latest news and check out what's happening on the Norwegian stock exchange. Once I've got a handle on how it might impact my investments, I shift gears to some schoolwork.

I'm typically nose-deep in my studies - with the exception of dart breaks - until the evening rush-hour traffic dies down. That's my cue to head home and rustle up some dinner. After chowing down, I like to get my workout in – these days, I'm mostly into running.

In the evening, you'll often find me kicking back and relaxing by spending time with friends and family. Every now and then, I like to indulge in some TV time for a little entertainment.

When you were 5 years old, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I cannot remember exactly what I wanted to be at the age of 5, but I do remember wanting to be a lawyer growing up. It appealed to me because I was told I would be able to argue as long as I wanted to and even get paid pretty well for it.

What do you like about working at HydraWell?

There are several things I like about working for HydraWell however, first and foremost I like the technology and solutions we are providing to solve real industry challenges. Often, I get the opportunity to travel to different countries, working with various clients and discussing our jet-based systems. When I am not travelling with work, I can usually be found in the office studying or participating in the never-ending dart championship.

What is something you learned in the last week?

A fun fact! You can fit 1300 Earths into a space the size of Jupiter, and 1000 Jupiter`s into a space the size of the Sun.

Where is your favourite place in the world?

Sola, my hometown!

What’s the last book you read?

Think Again by Adam Grant.

What are you currently watching on Netflix?

I am not currently watching anything on Netflix, but I did recently watch, enjoy and would recommend the Jack Reacher movies.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given?

I was told to always work doing something fun, because as long as it is fun, you will learn and get good at it.
