HydraWell has successfully completed a Perforate, Wash and Cement (PWC®) operation for Vermilion Energy in the smallest casing size ever treated using the PWC® method.
The operation took place in a mature onshore gas well in the Netherlands, where insufficient cement coverage had allowed communication with a lower water-bearing reservoir zone. Water production had reached 100–200 m³/day, affecting production efficiency and putting the well’s future value at risk.
Using HydraWell’s HydraCT™ rigless perf wash cement system, the team restored zonal isolation in 4-1/2” casing within a deviated and constrained well environment. The jet-based technology enabled the operation without relying on surface rotation of the workstring, demonstrating its flexibility in challenging well conditions.
Post-job monitoring confirmed that water production had fallen to approximately 2 m³/day, representing a reduction of more than 95%.
The successful intervention restored well integrity, reduced the operational burden associated with produced water handling and demonstrated the potential of PWC® technology to extend the productive life of existing assets.
The operation also highlights the application of HydraCT™ beyond plug and abandonment, offering a solution for restoring zonal isolation in producing wells affected by cement sheath failure.
