Case Study: HydraCT™ Delivers Breakthrough Well Abandonment Solution in Australia

Successful launch of HydraCT™ in Australia demonstrating HydraWell’s advanced capabilities in efficient and secure well abandonment

We have successfully deployed our advanced HydraCT™ PWC® system in Australia, marking a significant step forward in rigless well abandonment technology. The project, conducted Q3 2024 for a leading integrated energy operator, was part of a 20-week plug and abandonment (P&A) campaign in the Surat Basin near Brisbane.

The client required an innovative solution to remediate Surface Casing Vent Flow (SCVF) across multiple aquifer zones while ensuring long-term well integrity. Traditional methods were not suitable for the complex conditions, so HydraCT™ was selected for its ability to effectively clean the annulus and improve cement placement without the need for pipe rotation nor the conducting section milling. During the campaign, HydraWell successfully placed four PWC® plugs, and three of the plugs were installed in only ten hours each, which contributed to a significant reduction in project timelines.

The project was completed without any health, safety, or environmental incidents and delivered substantial efficiency gains compared to rig-based techniques. By eliminating the need to run drill pipe, HydraCT™ helped streamline operations while reducing costs and CO₂ emissions. With this successful deployment, we continue to provide cutting-edge solutions that align with industry demand for more sustainable and cost-effective P&A operations.
